OUR HISTORY

The first organizational meeting of the Central Missouri Chapter of Safari Club International was held in October 2001. The chapter was formed by a group of hunters, sportsmen and women, and outdoor enthusiasts who wanted to make a positive difference in their communities.

Built entirely by volunteers, the chapter has always been driven by people who donate their time, resources, and energy to help others. From the beginning, the primary goals were to provide charitable support to those in need, educate the public on hunting and conservation, and promote responsible outdoor traditions.

Early on, the chapter chose to focus on several meaningful programs, including Safari Wish, Share the Harvest, and hunter safety education. Through Safari Wish, the chapter has helped fulfill the outdoor dreams of seven kids by taking them hunting and fishing. Each experience is professionally videotaped, and the chapter also provides taxidermy work for each child’s trophy.

The chapter has also played an important role in supporting the Sportsmen Against Hunger / Share the Harvest program. In 2007, Central Missouri deer hunters donated 26,550 pounds of venison to charities through the program sponsored by the Central Missouri Chapter of SCI.

“This was a record amount of venison donations for the program sponsored each year by our organization, and we appreciate the deer hunters’ support and the opportunity to team up with other partners on this fine program that serves the needy,” said Bill Moore, president of the Central Missouri Chapter of SCI.

Today, the chapter continues to grow, with well over 200 members. As the organization moves forward, conservation, education, and humanitarian service remain at the heart of everything we do. The funds raised through chapter events help support programs that make a real impact for wildlife, outdoor education, and people in need throughout the community.
